Profile for Jane Tricker, freelance medical writer and editor

I am a highly experienced writer and editor and can offer:

  • Medical writing
  • Copywriting (including SEO copywriting)
  • Rewriting English for non-native English speakers
  • Copyediting
  • Proofreading

I pride myself on meeting deadlines and tailoring my work to the end user – be they research scientist, patient, member of the public, doctor, sales team member, marketer or publisher.

Before going freelance, I was Editorial Manager for the Business Reports division of PJB Publications (now Informa) – publishers of the Scrip, Clinica, Agrow and Animal Pharm newsletters for the pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostics, agrochemical and animal health industries, respectively.

Before going into publishing, I worked for nearly 10 years as a process development chemist for SmithKlineFrench Pharmaceuticals (now part of GSK), Zeneca Agrochemicals (now part of Syngenta) and Tate and Lyle. I graduated with an honours degree in biological chemistry from the City University, London, and still consider myself first and foremost a scientist.

'Many thanks for this revision. I think it is a vast improvement on earlier drafts.' (Owner, medical education agency on revision of salesforce training materials)

'Intelligent and articulate, Jane is a highly experienced Medical Editor who is capable of working individually or as part of a team. She has always been well regarded by other members of staff, as she is extremely approachable and willing to offer support or advice. She is very reliable and has always demonstrated a high level of commitment to her duties.' (Reference from MD of medical communications agency following a stint as Editorial Manager)

The following three are all from authors whose papers I proofread for Henry Stewart Publishing:

'Thanks a lot for this careful proofreading, I have never experienced this high quality standard in any other journal.'

‘Many thanks to the proofreader for their careful (and usually unsung!) work.’

‘Thank you for an excellent proofreading, which is perhaps the most thorough I have ever noted on the part of an editor.’

‘I am grateful for all your comments. Many of the authors have got back to me already confirming that the various suggestions you made were good ones.’ (Journal Editor, Henry Stewart Publishing, about copy editing work)

'Just wanted to thank you for once again being a really big help with the NCI posters. I’m not sure than many freelancers would be quite so flexible with things coming through in dribs and drabs, but we did it.' (Editorial Manager, medical communications agency)

'Many thanks for proof-reading the abstract and for the excellent overview of the submission requirements; even checking if the abstract is within the word limit! …. thank you for taking the project on at such short notice and for your input. (Brand Manager, pharmaceutical company, Switzerland)

'Dear Jane, thanks a lot for you wonderful work!' (Doctor, Ospedali Galliera, Genova, Italy, paper edited for English)
